About Smart Gear Vault
Smart Gear Vault is a small, independent UK website about smart gadgets: phones, wearables, smart TVs, robot vacuums, fans and home security. It's run by Rory King. The aim is simple: help UK shoppers pick the right gadget without wading through spec sheets and conflicting “best of” lists.
How we research
Our reviews and buying guides are researched, not lab tests. Unless a page says otherwise, we haven't tested the product ourselves, and each review says how it was researched. For every page we:
- check the product is genuinely on sale new in the UK
- compare the manufacturer's official UK specifications with retailer listings
- read independent hands-on reviews from UK publications such as The Guardian, Trusted Reviews, Expert Reviews, TechRadar, What Hi-Fi? and Tom's Guide, and name our sources
- include the downsides and who a product isn't for, not just the highlights
- date our prices and describe them as approximate, because they change often
Star ratings on our reviews are our own judgement based on that research. They aren't lab scores or Amazon customer ratings.
What we don't do
- We don't make up test results, quotes or customer reviews.
- We don't link to refurbished or used products. Our Amazon links are for brand-new items.
- Brands don't pay us to include or rank their products.
How the site makes money
Some links on this site are Amazon affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It doesn't change which products we include. Read our full affiliate disclosure.
