Apple AirTag (4 Pack) Review (UK): Never Lose Your Keys Again

★★★★★Our rating: 5/5•By Smart Gear Vault•Updated 4 October 2026

Quick verdict

If you use an iPhone, the second-generation AirTag is the best item tracker you can buy. It finds things from further away than before, it's louder, and the Find My network means lost bags can be located almost anywhere. The four-pack is the best value way to cover keys, bags, luggage and more.

Apple refreshed the AirTag in January 2026, five years after the original. The second-generation model looks the same but has new internals: Apple's second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, an upgraded Bluetooth chip and a louder speaker. The four-pack is the obvious choice if you want to track several things at once.

Who is it for?

AirTag is for iPhone owners who regularly misplace keys, wallets or bags, and for travellers who want peace of mind about checked luggage. Families can use a four-pack across bags, bikes and suitcases. AirTag is designed for tracking objects, not people or pets, and it doesn't work as a tracker with Android phones.

What's new in the second generation

The new Ultra Wideband chip means Precision Finding, which guides you with on-screen arrows, haptics and sound, works from up to 50% further away. The speaker is 50% louder with a new chime, so it's easier to find keys buried in a sofa. For the first time you can also use Precision Finding from your wrist with a compatible Apple Watch.

Find My and travel

When an AirTag is out of range of your iPhone, the crowdsourced Find My network of Apple devices can report its approximate location back to you. Share Item Location lets you temporarily share a lost item's location with more than 50 partner airlines to help recover delayed luggage. Apple cites airline IT provider SITA reporting a 26% reduction in baggage delays where it's used.

Privacy

Location data is end-to-end encrypted, and AirTag doesn't store location history on the device. Apple includes protections against unwanted tracking, such as cross-platform alerts if an unknown AirTag is travelling with you, and Bluetooth identifiers that change frequently.

Pros and cons

Verdict

The second-generation AirTag takes the best tracker for iPhone owners and makes it easier to use, with longer Precision Finding range and a louder speaker. The four-pack is the best value. Just remember you'll want a holder or keyring, as there's still no hole for attaching it.
